Richard C. Allen MD PhD FACS is an oculoplastic surgeon at Texas Oculoplastics Consultants in Austin, Texas.  He is the former Carolyn F. Elles Professor of Ophthalmology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Dr. Allen attended Duke University where he received a BS in Chemistry followed by Baylor College of Medicine where he received his MD and PhD degrees. He completed a residency in ophthalmology and a fellowship in oculoplastic surgery at the University of Iowa. Dr. Allen is a member of ASOPRS, ESOPRS, and the Orbital Society.  He is the President of ASOPRS in 2023 and the Editor-in-Chief for the journal Orbit.  Dr. Allen has lectured throughout the world and has over 120 peer-reviewed publications which have been cited over 5000 times.  His on-line oculoplastic surgery video atlas (available at, hosted by the University of Iowa, is recognized worldwide.  He is affiliated with the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Dell Medical School in Austin, TX.
